Volunteers
SSP is built on the valuable time and efforts gifted by volunteers in a variety of areas, including fundraising, graphic design, school outreach, serving on the Board, or becoming a group Elder. We welcome your contributions! If you feel you have a skill you would like to offer SSP, please contact us at [email protected] While we receive many offers by volunteers to work directly with our youth groups, we unfortunately have to decline these offerings at this time with the exception of those applying to be an Elder or Leader.
Elders
“Elders have been the ones who, over long lives of experience and growth, have converted knowledge and history into wisdom and whose revered role is to model this wisdom as they teach the younger generations.” – Ron Pevny, Life Coach
Elders are in a stage of their life when they are inspired to gift their time and wisdom in working closely with Leaders to help participating youth learn to be authentic, self confident, and respectful of both others and the Earth. They support parents at quarterly parent meetings, and might shed light on parent or youth issues, help resolve interpersonal challenges, or simply witness and honor the Leaders in their work. Elders are aged 50+, have previous experience raising and/or mentoring children, and are passionate about coming-of-age and rites of passage work. If you or someone you know would make an inspirational addition to the Elders Council, please contact us or fill out the application.
“Elders are people whose own roots, planted ancestrally so many years ago and now blossoming deep from within the soul, yearn to nourish the youth while participating actively in the process of creating a healthy, viable community for the future.” – Michael Lerner, SSP Elder
Board
The SSP Board of Directors is a “working board” of creative and committed individuals who share SSP’s vision, and plays a critical role in supporting SSP’s Coming Of Age program. Serving on the Board includes attending monthly Board meetings, providing guidance and direction to help support SSP’s programs, taking on voluntary assignments when needed, and serving on at least one Board committee (e.g., finance, fundraising, marketing, community-building, and new groups). If you are interested in learning more about joining the SSP Board of Directors, please contact the Board at [email protected].
Leaders
SSP always accepts applications for qualified male and female leaders for its Coming of Age program and will keep them on file for when we are hiring. We generally review applications two times annually, in November and May. Please submit before then to be included in group interviews. Trainings will take place over winter (Dec./Jan.) and summer. Start is in September for May applicants and February for November applicants.
If you are interested, spend some time on the website, check out the videos, read the FAQs, and review the Leader Qualifications and Leader Responsibilities. When you are ready, fill out the Application and send an email with a Cover Letter and Resume to [email protected]
